Dance Concert

At STSDS we always aim to give all students the chance to participate in a professional performance at our Biannual Concert. Concerts offer students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their family and friends the result of a year's hard work and dedication. It is an exciting event for students to be involved with, regardless of age or ability, and not only provides performance experience, but lots of fun memories too! This experience helps build self-esteem, self-assurance and provides that our students carry with them long after their dancing days are over.

Who participates?Provided students are able to commit to extra rehearsals and the extra effort and work that come with being part of a performance, the option to participate is open to them, however students who join late in the year may not be able to participate due to missed deadlines for costume measurements, orders, and alterations, and fee payments. Adult students are encouraged to perform however it is not compulsory. Any student who wishes to perform must confirm in writing to our management.

What kind of time commitment should I expect?Class attendance is VERY IMPORTANT this time of year as the dancers prepare dances for the concert. Please make every effort to be at all classes! It is difficult to make up for lost time, and since the dancers are practicing in their formations, it is most helpful to have all members of the dance participating each week. Additional rehearsals may be required outside of class time. Students are strongly encouraged to do their best to attend, as absence will affect not only the student but their peers too. If students can not attend any extra rehearsal, their performance may suffer as a result and in some classes this may affect their eligibility to perform in the concert. Additionally, students who have not paid their Class Fees also may not perform.

What does it cost?COSTUMESAll costumes are tailored or purchased through professional catalogues. Students will be measured for their costumes in their class rooms. Please note that there are costs also associated with costumes which must be paid at the time of confirmation of participation.

TICKETSThe studio will announce when ticket orders are available and how they can be purchased. Tickets are available for purchase, with seats being allocated, theatre style in order of purchase. Be aware that if you decide to order extra tickets after your original order, they may not be seated next to each other. We encourage you to plan in advance and order all your tickets at once to avoid disappointment.

CONCERT DVDSA DVD of the concert will be available for purchase. Please remember that DVD costs increase after the concert, so it’s best to pre-order yours well before the concert. The DVD will take at least 6-8 weeks to professionally produce and package. You will be notified when your order is ready to be picked up. If you will be moving or unable to pick your DVD up after the break, please inform us (and provide postal address) and we can invoice for postage fee.

EtiquettesARRIVALOn the day of the concert, students are required to arrive backstage 1.5 hours before doors open. Doors generally open one hour before the show starts. Parents are welcome to wait in the foyer, or visit any of the cafes in the local area while they wait. Parents are not allowed backstage at any point on concert day. Please drop your child backstage and then wait to take your seats in the auditorium and enjoy the show! We ask that you stay for the entire concert, rather than leaving after your item, especially as all students are involved in finale items - it’s also good performer etiquette.

BACKSTAGEPerformers must stay in their designated areas, whether backstage or in their designated rehearsal room. All children are supervised by our concert staffs, and children and adult students will stay in their designated rehearsal and changing areas. Guests, parents or other non- performers are not to be backstage at any time during the concert.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOTAPINGParents are invited to videotape and take pictures during the Dress Rehearsal. Photography and videotaping (except by the hired professionals) during the Concert will not be allowed. Photos and video are available for purchase after the concert. This leaves you free to enjoy the concert, and means that performers and fellow audience members are not distracted or inconvenienced by another audience member’s recording. You can enjoy high quality recording by professional photographers and videographers after the concert. Our concert staffs may ask you to leave the auditorium if you record performances, so please make sure you put away all recording devices to avoid issues.

SponsorsBUSINESS SPONSORSBecoming a sponsor or a friend of STSDS is a great way to support the children and the arts in our community. If you own a business, it is a wonderful way to showcase your business to the packed audiences who attend our Biannual Dance Concert. We are also offering advertising spaces in our program which will go towards keeping the production cost down. It will also enable us to put on a much more spectacular performance. This will ensure that the concert remains affordable for everyone to attend. Money and donations from sponsorship and advertising will go towards the following: Sound hire and equipments; Lighting hire and equipments; Labor costs associating with Sound and Lighting; Venue hire; Advertising and Printing costs; Props and stage sets

IN-KIND DONATIONSWe welcome donations from individuals or companies for in-kind goods and services. All contributors will be recognized on our website. Examples of items we regularly need include: Water and snacks for our performers at concerts and rehearsals; Food and drinks for pre- and post-concert receptions. Graphic design and marketing services (creating postcards, flyers, ads and other PR pieces) & many more…

VOLUNTEERSVolunteer forms will be handed out in May. If you are interested in helping please fill out the form and return to the office.
