Contemporary dance is a form of dance which focuses on the serious expression of inner emotions, using a free-flowing, interpretive style, rather than following the rigid rules characteristic of many dance disciplines. Many of its concepts come from the ideas and innovations of 20th century modern dance, including floorwork and turn-in of the legs. This intro to contemporary dance technique class introduces total beginners to the world of contemporary dance and self-expression drawing upon elements of contemporary technique in a structured, progressive, incremental curriculum. Students can expect to improve balance, posture and alignment, through movement sequences and technical exercises that develop over the course period.

Body Conditioning
Conditioning is defined as a state of being physically fit so your body can safely perform the physical demands with least risk and possibility of injury. For dancers, body conditioning is all about working to tone and sculpt their muscles apart from, and over and above the dance movements. With a combination of stretches like pilates and yoga, muscle toning or building exercises like weight training or gym, as well as workouts abdominal(core) strength, glutes, and hamstrings. Body conditioning aims to improve technique and overall presence while performance and it's so essential that many dancers end up working on it even after they have stopped dancing. The result is more lift without tension, deeper plies, higher jumps with less effort, tighter turns, and improved extension and turnout.

Adult Street

Street Jazz (also called jazz funk) is a hybrid of hip-hop and jazz dance. Although it borrows from hip-hop dance, it is not considered a style of hip-hop because the foundational movements are jazz.
