Contemporary Foundation
If you've never danced before and aren't quite sure where to start, then this is the class for you. Our 8 weeks Dance Foundation courses are ideal for those looking for more intensive training and wishing to build a solid foundation in dance technique. During the course you will raise your performance ability and further your knowledge across a variety of dance genres, all helping you to gain confidence to pursue future dance training. This is a unisex class and all experience levels are welcome, from the absolute beginners to the seasoned dancers. All levels contain 8x 1.5 hour sessions over 8 weeks. No Registration & Deposits required. Please note that classes are open to people aged 13 or older.

Contemporary Foundation
On our Contemporary Foundation, our goal is to help you grow and build a solid foundation in contemporary. You will learn about the 3 most popular tecniques, namely the Graham Tecnique, Limón Tecnique and Cunningham Tecnique, but perhaps more importantly develop as an individual – physically, emotionally and intellectually. Our work is designed to improve confidence, performance, physical and mental stamina, openness, focus, willingness to explore and experiment, intuition and instinct, self-discipline and motivation. This syllabus truly creates the platform and provides the proper tools to create dancers capable of furthering their education in contemporary dance.

Graham Tecnique

Graham technique is a modern dance movement style and pedagogy created by American dancer and choreographer Martha Graham. Graham technique is based on the opposition between contraction and release, a concept based on the breathing cycle which has become a "trademark" of modern dance forms. Its other dominant principle is the "spiraling" of the torso around the axis of the spine. Graham technique is known for its unique dramatic and expressive qualities and distinctive floorwork.

Limón Tecnique

José Arcadio Limón was a dancer and choreographer from Mexico and who developed what is now known as 'Limón technique'. In his choreography, Limón spoke to the complexities of human life as experienced through the body. His dances feature large, visceral gestures — reaching, bending, pulling, grasping — to communicate emotion. Inspired in part by his teacher Doris Humphrey's and Charles Weidman's theories about the importance of body weight and dynamics, his own Limón technique emphasizes the rhythms of falling and recovering balance and the importance of good breathing to maintaining flow in a dance.

Cunningham Tecnique

Mercier Philip "Merce" Cunningham was an American dancer and choreographer who was at the forefront of American modern dance for more than 50 years. Cunningham Technique develops clarity, strength and flexibility in both the spine and legwork. The torso and legs are used either in coordination or opposition to one another. Spatial Awareness is gained by implementing multiple changes of direction within a single phrase where any point in the space can be the dancer's front. In more advanced work, various parts of the body move simultaneously in multiple directions.

● Learn (12 sets) of floor (isolation) & center work, swings, falls & across the floor
● Learn improvisation, how to point toes, bend, etc
● Learn full choreography at the end of the module

● Learn the Cunningham Coordination & Spatial technique
● Learn (12 sets) of center & barre work, weight shifting & across the floor exercises
● Learn improvisation, how to point toes, bend, etc
