What To Wear

What To Wear

General Guide
We encourage you to wear clothing that you're comfortable in and that allows you to move! For Ballet, Contemporary and technique classes, tighter fitting clothes are recommended to get the most out of your class. Bring a pair of clean socks for Contemporary and Ballet.

  • Your dance wear should be clean and well-fitting
  • Jewellery should not be worn unless required for religious or cultural reasons
  • Where used, makeup should be kept light and to a minimum
  • Always bring a water bottle to keep yourself hydrated throughout the session and a small towel as it's common to sweat during classes.
  • Bring a spare shirt and/or a gym towel as you’ll most likely be working up a sweat!

Ballet & Modern
Trial students may wear any form-fitting apparel that allow for ease of movement such as a leotard and tights or a tank top or t-shirt with exercise pants or leggings, and barefoot. All ballet students MUST wear a leotard with tights and have appropriate ballet shoes by the second month of class. Hair must be in a bun. Students may wear a skirt or dance pants over the leotard. Hair should be neat and tidy, styled off the face and neck so that the line of the head and neck is not obscured

Belly Dance
Students may wear any form-fitting apparel that allow for ease of movement. Tights and a tank top or t-shirt with exercise pants or leggings are preferred. Barefoot is most common, some dancers will also wear socks or foot thongs for practicing spins so as to reduce the friction of feet against the floor.

Contemporary
Students may wear any comfortable and loose-fitting tops and pants - nothing too tight or loose that will restrict movement. The line of the body must be seen; however, no sports bras and/or shorts alone (shorts must be worn with tights) are permitted. Bare feet, socks or foot-undeez is preferred. Knee pads are encouraged as class contains floorwork.

Heels
Feel free to dress it up and wear a fun outfit that makes you feel sexy. Low/no platform heels are best; thicker heels might feel more stable if you’re not used to moving in heels. Knee pads are encouraged as class contains floorwork.

Street Styles
Students may wear any comfortble and non-restrictive streetwear such as track pants, cargo pants or long shorts with an oversized t-shirt. You must be able to move easily. Shorts and leggings are optional. Clean, sneakers, slip-on jazz shoes are allowed, but sports shoes are preferred. No hard-soled street shoes will be allowed on the dance flooring. Strictly no sandals and slippers.

Strength & Conditioning
You'll want to wear something that allows you to move, stretch and contort your body into numerous positions! Choose clothes that let you move freely, like stretchy leggings or fitted tops. Avoid clothes that are too tight or too loose as they can limit your movement or pose. You are encouraged to bring your own yoga mat or borrow a mat from us.

Zumba
Similar to an aerobics class at the gym, we recommend wearing comfortable clothing which is breathable allowing you to feel good and move freely, such as track pants, cargo pants, leggings, a t-shirt or tank top and sneakers. No hard-soled street shoes will be allowed on the dance flooring. Strictly no sandals and slippers.
