Dancehall
Dancehall was born in the inner city of Kingston, Jamaica in the late 70s. In this class students will be introduced to the various styles of this expressive, energetic and feel good dance, from the fun popular party dances, impressive Dancehall Queen moves, smooth like butter grooves to the more dynamic steps of today.
Groove & Freestyle
Whether you’re trying to level up for your next hip-hop class or want to feel a bit more confident on the dance floor, training groove will give you excellent body awareness, control, and an elevated quality of movement. With strong emphasis on musicality and creativity, Groove & Freestyle practices the learning of the fundamentals styles such as Locking, Popping, Hip Hop, Breakdance, House, and more.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop is the style that most people associate with Street Dance. There are different ways in which Hip Hop is presented depending on the type of Hip Hop music it is danced to. Understand the basics such as how to bounce, groove, wave, and find your own individual and organic connection to the music within the language and expression of street styles and hip hop dance.
Locking
Locking is a style of funk dance, which is today also associated with hip hop. The name is based on the concept of locking movements, which means freezing from a fast movement and "locking" in a certain position, holding that position for a short while and then continuing at the same speed as before. It relies on fast and distinct arm and hand movements combined with more relaxed hips and legs.
Popping
Popping is one of the more technical styles, that takes a lot of training to develop the understanding and the muscle control. Popping and related styles such as waving and tutting have also been incorporated into the electronica dance scene to some extent, influencing new styles such as liquid and digits and turfing.
Voguing
Voguing is at it's core a self-expression through femininity. This style of vogue focuses femininity on through the five elements of Hand/Arm Performance, Catwalk, Duckwalk, Spins & Dips and Floor Performance. The influences take a wide range from Modern Dance, Ballet, Figure Skating and Pantomime.
Waacking
Waacking is a dance style characterized by striking arm movements, poses, and footwork! It traces its roots back to the New York 1970s gay clubs where high-energy funk and disco music dominated the airwaves. Eventually emerged into a style of street dance with definite influences from disco, hip hop, popping, locking, martial arts, gymnastics and even jazz and ballet.
Choreography
Choreography classes can draw from a wide range of dance styles, including street dance, but also genres such as contemporary or jazz. Some choreographers draw most of their influence from a single style such as hip hop, for example, while others explore fusions between different genres. Ultimately, the choreography you learn in this class will depend on the choreographer’s own style, experience and interpretation of the music (that’s what makes it so fun)! Class will build on the SAME PIECE of choreography over 4-6 weeks.
Choreography
Choreography is a mix of clean, up-to-date moves based on hip hop, house, jazz, tap, locking and popping to create challenging choreography that encompasses how the style has evolved. Dancers are meant to look like they are unwinding, unraveling and floating. Expect isolations, slow, fluid movements like gliding and body waves and contemporary-inspired turns.
Girl Style
The basics of Girl Style might be the same as that in Girls Choreography but this class focuses on the techniques critical to executing a more girly style! Each of our Girl Style instructors come from different dance backgrounds, meaning they all showcase their own style of Girls Style choreography. There is the expression of girl-power, the engagement of your sensuality, and the use of strength. You will learn how to vary the textures in the way you dance, and find out what your flattering angles and lines are.
Street Jazz
Street Jazz is a combination of basic technical jazz elements with the attitude of Hip Hop. It is softer than hip hop but not as formal as traditional jazz. The style features sharp movements, body isolations and focuses on precision and confidence. It is energetic and funky, a type of dance you would expect to see in a pop MV.
