Royal Academy of Dance

At Sole To Soul Dance Studio we enhance our student’s education through the highly respected Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) graded and vocational examinations. The Royal Academy of Dance is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organizations in the world with more than 13,000 members spread across 79 countries.

The examination syllabus is taught to more than a quarter of a million students around the globe and is one of the most widely used classical ballet syllabi in professional academies and college dance programs. Students will start with our Baby Ballet dance curriculum, move through Pre-Primary and Primary levels and then into five Graded and six Vocational Graded levels. Students can move from Graded Examinations to Vocational Graded Examinations at an appropriate time; or they can study both pathways simultaneously.

Who is it for?
  • Children ages 4 years and up
  • Children with or without prior experience
  • Children showing a keen interest in the dance
  • Able to follow instructions
  • Ready to participate and listen to a teacher

RAD exams are recognised by the national qualification’s regulators for all UK nations. Graded and vocational graded examinations in dance at RQF Level 3 (an equivalent to A-levels or BTEC Nationals) are allocated points on the UCAS tariff. This means that candidates who have achieved a pass or higher in RAD Intermediate or Advanced Foundation, can use their RAD exam result towards their points tariff when applying to a relevant course at a university or higher education. At Sole To Soul Dance Studio we offer the opportunity to start from Baby Ballet, all the way up to Advanced 2.
If your child decides they would like to participate in the RAD examinations, they will be expected to maintain and follow through on certain requirements, including but not limited to:

  • Continued consistent attendance in their classical ballet class
  • Participation in the mock (practice) RAD examinations
  • Possible private or small group lessons should the teachers feel extra practice is needed

Discovering Repertoire
Discovering Repertoire was created by The Royal Academy of Dance specifically for adult ballet students wanting to pursue a deep understanding of this dance form. The program offers students a chance to learn well known repertoire such as Coppella, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Paquita, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker. Learners have the option of taking regulated examinations which starts at Level 2, which is approximately at the Grade 5 or Intermediate Foundation level. Level 3 is equivalent to Grades 6-8 or Intermediate and Advanced Foundation, and Level 4 is similar to Advanced 1 and 2 standard levels. Learners practice twice a week together to develop muscle memory, strength, and flexibility:

  • Level 2 (equivalent to Grade 5/Intermediate Foundation standard)
  • Level 3 (equivalent to Grades 6-8/Intermediate & Advanced Foundation standard)
  • Level 4 (equivalent to Advanced 1 & 2 standard)
