From Sole 👟 (to) Soul 🤍
Founded in 2008, Sole To Soul Dance Studio (STSDS) began with a simple belief—that every dancer deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and find confidence through dance. What started as a single 600 square foot studio on the second floor of a four-storey building slowly grew into something much more meaningful. With a small lounge, a modest office space, and a lot of heart, STSDS welcomed its first 50 students. Within a year, that number grew to 150, a reflection of the trust and connection built within the community.
By 2010, STSDS reached an important milestone, sending its first group of students for the Royal Academy of Dance examinations. It was a proud moment, marking the studio’s commitment to giving students a strong and recognised foundation. As the studio expanded into two floors and welcomed over 500 dancers, it became more than just a place to train, it became a space where students felt supported, challenged, and encouraged to keep improving.
In 2011, the Sole To Soul Dance Company (SDC) was formed, opening new doors for dancers who wanted to take their training further. With Junior and Senior divisions, SDC provided a pathway for students to grow not just in technique, but also in confidence, discipline, and performance. It was here that many dancers began to discover their potential and develop a deeper connection to their craft.

In 2012, the studio staged its first full-scale production, Dance Revolution 2012, at the Malaysia Tourism Centre Auditorium in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together over 200 dancers. For many, it was their first time on stage, an experience filled with excitement, nerves, and pride. In 2013, the introduction of the Kpop Company brought new energy and diversity to the studio. By 2014, STSDS had grown into a 6,800 square foot space across three floors, creating a home where dancers could explore different styles, train seriously, and share their journey with others.
In 2016, Glamorous Moment was held at Shantanand Auditorium, featuring nearly 300 dancers and faculty. The concert focused on helping each dancer feel confident in their own way encouraging them to express themselves, step forward, and truly enjoy being on stage.
In 2023, STSDS celebrated its 15-Year Anniversary with its largest production to date. Held over two days at Stage 1 Theatre, PJPAC, the concert brought together over 400 dancers and faculty. It was not just a celebration of achievements, but of friendships built, challenges overcome, and the many journeys that began within the studio.
Today, STSDS offers over 100 classes each week, guided by more than 40 instructors across 5 studios. Working with internationally recognised organisations such as the Royal Academy of Dance, the Royal Ballet School Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme, and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, the studio continues to provide structured and high quality training. More importantly, it remains a place where dancers are supported every step of the way.
From its early beginnings to where it stands today, Sole To Soul has always been about more than dance. It is about growth, connection, and the journey each dancer takes, both in the studio and beyond.
